Tracking Innovation Trajectories in the Complex Economy

An international conference on the cutting-edge techniques of network and big data analysis for the risk mitigation of investments in disruptive technologies

Talent Garden Fondazione Agnelli | Via Giacosa, 38, 10125, Turin

Forecasting the impacts of disruptive technologies is as important as difficult: indeed, the very word “disruptive” implies that the rules that were in place before the innovation will no longer be applicable. Value chains associated with the innovation will differ significantly from the others, so that forecasting their emergence would be of paramount importance to mitigate and manage the risks implied by technological innovation and their impact.

The aim of the conference is to discuss algorithms and unexplored machine learning techniques (and possibly a combination of both) to identify the emerging innovation trajectories singling out the associated unfolding production networks and value chains. Emerging value chains will then be discussed in relation to the innovation practices of public and private sectors (public and large firms, start-ups, financial entities, etc.) shaping innovation ecosystems.

On the sidelines of the Opening Lectio held by Doyne Farmer and the seven panels organized, the conference provides for: two panels dedicated to outstanding young students and scholars, selected through a call for abstracts; coffee tables dedicated to the exchange of ideas between senior experts and young students and scholars, selected through a call for ideas; two workshops on complexity economics and innovation mapping, by OECD — New Approaches to Economic Challenges Initiative and Nesta UK.

In partnership with INET Young Scholars Initiative, EAEPE, CWASA, Despina Big Data Lab - Università degli Studi di Torino, Politecnico di Torino, Talent Garden Fondazione Agnelli, OECD, Nesta UK, IN Srl.
