Jobs Act. The Labour Market two years after.

A discussion on the publication edited by Francsco Beraldi and Ivan Lagrosa

The Italian labour market has for many years been characterized by a severe and deep division: on the one hand, there is one section of workers protected by permanent contracts, with high guarantees and stable working conditions; on the other, there is an ever increasing group of people employed with fixed-term contracts or in self-employment, characterized by a lower level of protection and on average worse working conditions.

This is the framework into which the reform known as the Jobs Act falls. Two years on from its introduction, Neos  Magazine has drawn up the publication ‘Jobs Act. The labour market two years afterwards’, edited by Francesco Beraldi, University of Turin and Carlo Alberto College, and Ivan Lagrosa, Bocconi University and IGIER. Taking this volume as its starting point, on Friday 23 June at 5:30 pm an event about the Jobs Act will be held at the Luigi Einaudi Campus at Turin under the direction of CEST – Centre for Excellence and Transdisciplinary Studies, which will involve Maurizio Del Conte, Associate Professor of Labour Law at the Bocconi University and President of ANPAL, Marco Leonardi, Professor of Economics at the University of Milan and economics advisor to the government, and Michele Raitano, a researcher in economics at the Sapienza University in Rome.

The publication gathers together contributions of young scholars from various universities and Italian graduate centres who have raised questions about the Italian labour reform, also in the light of European comparisons.

Beside the analyses, graphs and info-graphics put together by students, the volume contains interviews with some of the most important Italian scholars of the labour market: Tito Boeri, Elsa Fornero, Daniela del Boca, Maurizio Ferrera, Pietro Garibaldi, Andrea Ichino, Piero Martello and Alessandro Rosina.

‘Jobs Act. The labour market two years later’ was produced in collaboration with CEST –Centre of Excellence and Transdisciplinary Studies, with the assistance of the Carlo Alberto College and the Einaudi Centre.
