Can we reduce unemployment by working less?

Reducing working time to allow a wider range of people to find a job seems a simple mechanism to counteract the high unemployment rate. However, the risks can overtake the benefits.

The theory that working time reductions will lead to the creation of new jobs is so simple that it appears true by definition. Nonetheless, some preliminary assumptions need to be verified to produce the desired effects.
